Ms. Vernita Allen Street was born on October 28, 1938, in Bulloch County, Georgia to the late Lee and Alice Allen. On Monday April 18, 2022, Vernita heard the trumpets of the angels of God, and took flight to be with her mother and father.
At an early age, Vernita joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from William James Senior High School in 1956/57. After graduation, she later moved to Miami, Florida, where she resided for more than 60 years. She was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board and was a dedicated mentor/sponsor for the Junior Usher Board.
After working more than 40 years at the United States Postal Service, Vernita retired in 2010. Several years thereafter, her health began to fail.
She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a loving sister, aunt and an admired friend.
She was preceded in death by her father Lee Allen, her mother, Alice Allen and her siblings, Roosevelt, Lee Edward, George Frank, Floria Mae and Eddie James.
To cherish her memories, Vernita leaves behind a loving, caring and dedicated son, her only child, Roderick Speight. She also leaves behind seven precious grandchildren, Latonya, Khambrel, Denzel, Deondrick, Kevorris, Danthony and seven great grandchildren. Fond memories are also cherished by her sisters, Ruby Powell of Miami, Florida and Mary Alice Hagin of Statesboro, Georgia; brothers, Flyod Daniel Allen (Renee) of Walkertown, North Carolina and James Allen (Debra) and Frederick Allen, both of Statesboro, Georgia; and Uncle Retired Major James Garbett of Tampa, Florida as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 93rd Street Community Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida.
Funeral services was entrusted to Eric S. George Funeral Home, 6107 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, Florida 33023.
