SFC Frederick Arvin Slider Sr., USA, Retired Obituary

SFC Frederick A. Slider Sr., USA, Retired was born on February 23, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the fourth child born to Charles V. Slider Sr. and Claudia B. (McCray) Slider. Fred was called home on Sunday, April 5, 2021.

He accepted Christ at an early age. He began his Christian walk at Lively Stone Church of God in St. Louis, Missouri under the direction of the late Bishop P. L. Scott.

He was formally educated in the schools of St. Clair County, Illinois. He graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School in 1976. Fred attended Illinois State University and was on the wrestling team. He continued his education at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville and graduated from the University of Maryland in Europe in 1986 with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science and a Minor in Public Administration.

Fred was united in Holy Matrimony to Sherrell Ann Moore in October 1979. Two children were born to this union.

He joined the United States Army on September 21, 1982. During his nearly twenty-one years of active duty service, Fred served in positions of increasing responsibility. Fred was a decorated soldier. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and qualified as an expert marksman. During his military career, he served in multiple duty assignments from, Fort McClelland, AL, Fort Hood, TX, Carl Schurz Kaserne, Germany, Fort Gordon, GA, Monroe, NC, South Korea, and Hawaii. He retired from the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas in 2003.

He was preceded in death by; his father and mother, Charles V. Slider Sr. and Claudia B. Slider; brother, Roderick Slider; sister, Jo Evelyn Slider; and son, Frederick A. Slider, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory; two children, Aislinn (Rudy) Slider of Hephzibah, GA and Sherita Slider Thomas of Wingate, NC; grandsons, Khalik A. Slider of Augusta, GA, Guyden J. Slider of Grovetown, GA; six sisters and two brothers, Ruby (Byron) Prince of Houston, TX, Dr. Charles Valent (Letitia) Slider Jr. of St. Roberts, MO, Michelle (Shelby) Hoover of Edwardsville, IL, Rita Slider of O’Fallon, IL, Cloteria Slider of Houston, TX, Charlotte (Charles) Harvey of Waldorf, MD, Keith A. (Aundrea) Slider of Kansas City, MO and Kimberly (Robert) Miller of Houston, TX; former wife, Sherrell A. Slider of Hephzibah, GA; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the Statesboro Chapel of Craig R. Tremble Funeral Homes, Inc. Pastor Charles Valent Slider Jr. will be the eulogist.

Internment will on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 1:00 PM be at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 U. S. Highway 301, Glennville, GA 30427.

Due to COVID-19, we will adhere to social distancing and we are requiring that a mask be worn if you plan to attend the celebration of life service or the internment.
