In the midnight hours of October 19, 2023, we lost a loved one – a Mother and Grandmother, a Sister, Aunt, and a Friend.
Lollie Bell Rawls was born September 26, 1944, in Statesboro, GA, to the late Raymond and Laura Lee (Willams) Rawls. Lollie was the first born of 10 children. She was educated in the Bulloch County Public School system; and the first 2 years of her adult life she was employed in Statesboro and Savannah, GA. In 1965, Lollie relocated to Boston, MA where she was initially employed as a domestic worker. Lollie joined the Gillette Razor Corporation in 1972 until her retirement in 1999. At that time, she decided to move closer to be with the rest of her family, moving to Atlanta, GA in the year 2000.
In her preparation to move closer to home, she lost her father, Raymond, in December 1999. Lollie was thankful for time she had with her mother, Laura Lee, until her death in 2011.
Lollie is also preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Rawls, of Statesboro, GA, and two daughters, Janice Deborah Edwards and Jackie Diane Rawls, both of Boston, MA; two brothers, Larry Rawls and Eddie Rawls, both of Statesboro, GA.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth (Falicia) Rawls of Conyers, GA; three granddaughters, Shanda Gillispie, Candis McCants, and Sesaleigh McDaniel of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Troy Anthony Edwards Jr of Boston MA; five great-grandchildren, Jalen, Skye, Troy, Carter, and Brodie, all of Atlanta, GA. One Sister, Mrs. Mary (Carroll) Joyce of Kennesaw, GA; six brothers, Willie (Jeneal) of Kentwood, LA, Johnny of Grovetown, GA, Ronald (Wanda) of Statesboro, GA, and Charlie, Raymond Jr (Angela) and Donald, all of Atlanta, GA. Also, to cherish her memory, a sister-in-law, Alberta Deloach Rawls of Statesboro, GA.
Friends dear to her heart: Deloras Cohen of Atlanta, GA, like a sister; Darryl Richardson and Tommy Royal of Boston, MA, like brothers, and Stanley Brabham of Winston-Salem, NC, a close confidante; and her favorite Aunt Ola Lester Raymond, of Pooler, GA., which she treasured their close friendship which lasted more than 60 years.
And, finally, to cherish her memory, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and host of other relatives and friends.
A Limb has fallen from the family tree,
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me."
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song,
the good life I lived while I was yet strong.
Continue my heritage I'm counting on you,
keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest,
remembering all how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions no matter how small,
go on with your life, don't worry about falls.
I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin,
until the day comes, we're together again.
