With sadness and compassion, Craig R. Tremble Funeral Homes, Inc, Statesboro Chapel, along with the Family, announce the passing of Mrs. Vernell Tremble Culver.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.”
Ecclesiates 3:1-2
The season of life for Vernell Tremble Culver began on September 27, 1927 in Savannah, Georgia where her seed was planted by the late Vernest Tremble and Beulah Thomas Tremble.
As she sprouted and grew, she attended Haven Home School and Beach Cuyler High School (which is now A.E. Beach High School).
Throughout her childhood she was nurtured in the Word of God. In 1945 she joined the Savannah Church of God where she served faithfully until her health declined. Vernell was strong in faith, in character and wisdom. She was trusted and committed to God’s holy word and always shared His love to those around her. She taught Vacation Bible School, served in the missionary organization and sang in the choir.
In 1944 she was joined in holy matrimony to Levi Culver. They were blessed with 54 years until his demise. Through this union ten children were born. Because her husband was a minister, she was what they now call “first lady” of three different congregations in Anniston, Alabama, Sylvania, and Glennville, Georgia Churches of God. She was a loving and devoted mother and her commitment to her family was a cornerstone of who she was. She was supportive of her children by being active in the PTA, and supported her children and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. She volunteered for the Foster Grandparent Program, the Hope House, plus numerous other organizations. She had a love for gardening and enjoyed tending to her flowers. Vernell had a love for children and assisted many young mothers with childcare. Blessed beyond measure, Vernell reached the ripe age of 94 years old. She lived to see generations of her off-springs with whom she left a legacy of love, humility, generosity and godliness She was a kind and generous person who greeted each day with a smile and touched the lives of many. You couldn’t know her without being inspired by her love and devotion to God, her family, friends, church and community.
On Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 10:15 a.m., God, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to bring Vernell’s earthly journey to a close and transitioned her to eternal rest. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by three children - Lenell Battise, Levi Vernest Culver, and Lonnie Mae Austin; one sister – Lizzie Mae Tremble Smith; three brothers – Jordon Tremble, Eugene Tremble and Lester Tremble.
Loving memories will be forever cherished by her children: James Culver, Sr. (Diann), Decatur, GA, Lee Andros Culver (Jessilyn), East Point, GA, Kenneth Culver, Savannah, GA, Michael Culver, Lithonia, GA, John Culver (Veronica), Savannah, GA, Shedrick Culver, Savannah, GA, Terri Culver, Savannah, GA, Angela Culver-Dees (Taylor), West Orange, NJ; special daughters – Mary Aikens (Ronald), Shirley Williams, Carmen Braxton and Gwendolyn Benton; 37 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; one brother – Vernest Tremble, Jr. (Janice); one sister-in-law – Dorothy McCall, one son-in-law – James Austin, Sr.; a devoted friend and confidante Rev.
