Deacon Walter "Walt" Davis, age 94, passed away Wednesday afternoon November 2nd, after an extended illness at Ogeechee Area Hospice Center, Statesboro, Ga., surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was a Jefferson County native, but resided in Bulloch County for many years. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board. He was also a former Deacon at Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church for 40 years. He retired for his own business Walter Davis Construction Company and worked with High Hope Center as a bus driver. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Barbara Lyons Davis of Statesboro, Ga.; two sons Mr. Albert James Davis(A.J.) and Mr. James Allen both of Statesboro, Ga.; six step-children Mrs. Gwendolyn(John) Hobbs of North Brunswick, N.J., Mr. Henry(Irene) Lyons Jr. of Augusta, Ga., Elder Cynthia(Donald) Bryant of Hinesville, Ga., Mr. Lucian C.(Carolyn) Lyons of Statesboro, Ga., Mr. Alex Lyons of Columbus, Ga., and Ms. Sharon Lyons of Blakely, Ga.; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday November 10, 2011 at 1pm at Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy. 24, Statesboro, Ga., with Rev. Daniel Woodson, eulogist. Interment will be held in Church Cemetery. Family visitation will be Wednesday from 7-8pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 210 Bulloch Street, Statesboro, Ga.
