Ms. Sharon R. Hawkins-Maxey, age 66, peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Cordele, Georgia.
Sharon was born on March 7, 1960, in Cordele, Georgia, to the late Lucius and Rosa Lee Hawkins. She attended Crisp High School in Cordele before later attending New Brunswick High School in New Jersey.
Sharon had a fondness for sports, and her favorite team was the Miami Dolphins. She also enjoyed fishing, swimming, gardening, watching Westerns, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Sharon resided in West Palm Beach, Florida, for more than 40 years before returning to Georgia, where she lived in Statesboro and later Cordele.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Maxey; her son, Remeico Nigel Johnson; and her parents, Lucius and Rosa Lee Hawkins.
Sharon leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Edwina Armstrong of New Brunswick, New Jersey; Barbara H. Lundy of Statesboro, Georgia; Brenda Lee of Pompano Beach, Florida; Linda Jones of Kendall Park, New Jersey; and Pamela Hawkins of Albany, Georgia; her brothers, Alphonso Hawkins of Los Angeles, California, and Reginald Hawkins of Oakland, California; her special cousin, Laquetta Mathis of Cordele, Georgia; and her special friend, Veotis Tukes of Cordele, Georgia. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life and cherished memories of Ms. Sharon Maxey will be held at a later date in Riviera Beach, Florida. The family appreciates your prayers, love, and support during this time.
