She was educated in the Burke County (Sardis) School System, attending Middle School before moving on to Waynesboro High Industrial School. Betty furthered her education at Savannah State College in Savannah, Georgia, where she majored in Law Enforcement with a focus on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Records/Information and Dissemination Section Classification Units. She completed 24 hours of specialized training in supervisory skills for women, international technology assertive skills, general mediation, managing problem behaviors, EEO compliance for supervisors, professional proofreading, business English, and drug deterrence programs. Her 38 years of dedicated service to the Federal Bureau of Investigation left an enduring legacy of professionalism and excellence. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling the world.
Betty received Christ into her life at an early age and joined the Beach Branch Baptist Church in Sardis, Georgia. Throughout her life, she maintained her faith, joining the New Southern Rock Baptist Church after moving to Atlanta, Georgia, and later making Washington, DC, her permanent home.
Betty was an avid sportswoman who loved basketball, especially supporting the Mystic WNBA Champions, as well as football and line dancing. She cherished traveling on cruises and visiting family during reunions.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Barnes and Dannie Barnes; her sister, Sarah; her nephew, Manchella Allen; and her great-niece, Shilow Allen.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory four sisters: Norma A. Moore Robinson of Irvington, Alabama; Evelyn Allen of Mobile, Alabama; Annie R. Guffie of Atlanta, Georgia; and Relovely Robinson of Hamden, Connecticut; her brother, Johnny (Sheila) Allen of Detroit, Michigan; three nieces, Shayla Allen, Angela Guffie, and Shanda Vinenie; seven nephews, Kendrix Allen, Darmonie II, Shimon II, Domonick II, Rudy Guffie, Joshua Allen, and Jamie; eight great-nieces, Melrose, Aricka, Nyeashea, Shamya, Valerie, Dasani, Zoey, and Zada; one great-great-niece, Jalani; eleven great-nephews, Justus, Shiron Jr., Christian, Darmonia Jr., Domonick, D’Triche, Jamaruis, Jaylen, Ja’Kenyan, Jermaine, and Ja’Kavious; four great-great-nephews, Jakhari, JaiVeon, Christian, and D’Triche Jr.; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
