Charles Edward Clanton was born in Pembroke, Georgia on June 23, 1959 to two loving parents, Solomon P. Clanton, Sr. and Earnestine Crawford Clanton. At the age of fifty-five, he departed this world in Atlanta, Georgia with family by his side. Charles was educated in the Bryan county School System. As a very young child, he hated being in school away from home and missed a year of it, despite his mother's many creative efforts to keep him there. His interest in school began to grow when he was allowed to attend class with his older brother, Joseph. Being the above average learner that he was, he managed to catch up and graduate on time with his correct class. After graduating from Bryan County High School in 1977, he decided that serving his country was the correct thing to do. so, he enlisted in the United States Army and began a career that would take him far away from home. He was stationed stateside in New Jersey, Alabama, and Colorado. For a number of years, he served in Europe in Heidelberg, Germany. After a successful military career, he returned home to Atlanta, purchased a home, and worked as a DeKalb County Deputy Sheriff and later for Coca Cola USA. Following his entrepreneurial spirit, Charles moved to Virginia and began his own mobile car detailing business where he found great success. He attended Little Salem First Christ Holiness Church where he was a member throughout his childhood. As he traveled around the glove, Charles never forgot the lessons of God's love and the need for salvation, which motivated him to stay in church. Charles repented and accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and ensured that his name was written in the Lamb's Book of Life. He is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Rosemary and Betty Jean, who passed away as children, Catherine Clanton Hollingsworth, Geneva Clanton Lumpkin, and Martha Ann Clanton Hagans. He leaves to morn his passing his son, Delvin Arnell Clanton and his daughter, Shadawn Lenae Clanton. He also leaaves to morn, six siblings, Mary L. Mobley of Chesapeake, Virginia; Solmon(Eileen) Clanton, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia; Franklin J. Clanton, Joseph (Dorothy) Clanton, Annette Clanton Howell, all of Atlanta, Georgia and David E. Clanton of Pembroke, Georgia, three brother-in-laws Minister Patrick Hollingsworth II, Minister Samuel Lumpkin, and Elder Johnnie D. Hagans, one uncle Deacon Josephus Clanton, two aunts Virginia Mikell and viola Clanton. He also leaves to morn his death, twenty-four nieces/nephews, thirty-three great nieces/nephews, and two great great grand nieces/nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life services for Mr. Charles Edward Clanton was held Saturday June 27, 2015 at 11am at the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Pembroke, Ga., with Minister Michael Stafford, Presiding, the Rev. James Bulloch, Eulogist and the Rev. Victor Brewton, Pastor. Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home, Pemborke Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
