Carol Jo Depta succumbed to her long illness on August 20, 2026, with family by her side. Born February 26, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, she lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, fierce independence, and unwavering love for her family.

Carol built a career through dedication and perseverance, working as a legal secretary, a construction secretary, and later spending many years in Commercial Sales at Lowe’s. She took pride in her work, enjoyed building relationships with customers and coworkers, and was known for her reliability, knowledge, and willingness to help others. She approached every job with a strong work ethic and quiet determination.

Raised with a love of horses, Carol carried her appreciation for animals throughout her life. There was almost always a dog by her side, and her beloved Ping Pong held a special place in her heart. She also found joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours fishing, boating, camping in the family’s RVs, and enjoying time on the water. A devoted NASCAR fan, she rarely missed a race and proudly cheered for her favorite drivers, Bobby Allison, Mark Martin, and the Kyles; Busch and Larson.

Carol had a remarkable talent for finding the perfect gift. Family and friends looked forward to birthdays and Christmas because she always seemed to know exactly what would make someone smile. Her generosity extended far beyond presents; it was reflected in the countless ways she quietly cared for those she loved.

Those who knew Carol would likely describe her as independent, stubborn, and strong-willed, qualities that helped her face life’s challenges with resilience. Beneath that determination was a caring heart that loved deeply and remained devoted to her family.

She is survived by her children, Kevin Swank and his partner, Samantha Blair; Karin Fisher and her husband, Steve; and Tony Swank and his wife, Carolina. She was a proud grandmother to Nicholas Geier, Gianna and Anthony Swank, Laura Ashley Fisher, Jacob Hoofman and his wife, Jessica, Kyle Hoofman and his wife, Kaylee, and Scott Fisher. She was also the cherished great-grandmother of Aiden and Chloe Yurkiewicz  and Jameson and Jensen Hoofman. Carol is also survived by her sister, Connie Reeder.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Depta; her longtime companion, Don Greene; her parents, Winifred and Paul Dellinger; and her sister, Vickie Dellinger.

Carol’s legacy is found not only in the family she loved so dearly but in the memories she created around campfires, on the water, at the racetrack, and around the Christmas tree. Her strength, generosity, and enduring love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice nurses, aides, volunteers, and caregivers whose compassion, dignity, and kindness brought comfort to Carol and her family throughout her journey.

Carol will be interred with Bill at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL. A celebration of her life will follow, with details to be announced by the family at a later date.
