Ms. Dorthy Mae Smith, age 72, made her transition into eternal rest in the care of Haven Hospice of Orange Park, Florida on December 10, 2019, surrounded by family. Dorthy was born on September 4, 1947, in Stilson, Georgia, to the late Joe Brown and Effie Smith. At an early age, she joined Jerusalem AME Church. Dorthy was educated by the Bulloch County Public school system which equipped her to later retire as a Cook from Clyde’s Market of Brooklet, GA.
Dorthy was a very sweet and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved traveling, puzzle books, playing cards and cooking her favorite potato salad. She was a role model of TRUE love, patience and kindness. During her journey in life, she touched many in words and deeds. Her 5 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death.
Dorthy Mae Smith leaves this earthly life for her family to celebrate her legacy of love: two sons, Jerry (Stacey) Smith of Statesboro, GA, Angelo (Kanikka) Smith of Miami, FL; sister Rosetta Smith of Middleburg, FL; two sister in laws, Mae Liza Smith, Glennis Smith of Brooklet, GA; three Godsons, Lawrence Smith, Christopher (Monica) Everett, Jartavis Smith; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; her beloved caregiver Janice Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Home Going Celebration Services for Ms. Dorthy Mae Smith will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 7829 GA Hwy 24 Statesboro, GA beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harry J. Tremble Jr., Pastor.
Family and Friends visitation will be on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of the Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home. Internment services will be at the Jerusalem AME Church cemetery.
Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home, Statesboro Chapel and the Weston Funeral Home of Jacksonville, FL are in charge of arrangements and services.
